this is what happens-

I saw this a few days ago on Etsy and I hearted it, but I keep going back to look at it. It’s just so pretty and ridiculously romantic. It’s the Spring Bloom Terrarium Pendant from Sophie Isobel. So cute. So sweet. But beyond that it takes me to another place, and I love that this photograph takes me there too. I love it. I also love the cutting layers and all the cutting that had to happen and i love the raw edges on the flowers. And I love the green velvet ribbon. The whole thing is just great. She also carries some other very great things- like my second favorite-

Cause i do. I heart him a lot. I heart him every time I sit down to iron for four hours while watching Pride and Prejudice- which version, friends? That’s right, the only one. The BBC mini series (when I say I heart Mr. Darcy, part of me is really saying I heart Colin Firth as Mr. Darcy).
Anyway, thank you Sophie Isobel Designs for making such adorable goodies!

I can’t remember when exactly it began, but I can remember standing up on my tip toes trying to get into the drawers in my grandma’s china hutch because I knew that there were scissors in there somewhere. Big, heavy scissors with painted black handles. At home I wasn’t allowed scissors, so wherever I went I looked in kitchen drawers, bathroom drawers, and my stealthy li’l self even snuck into bedroom drawers in search of them. I really couldn’t understand why anyone would hide scissors from themselves. They never seemed to know where they kept their own scissors . . . Of course looking back on those early years I completely understand why. I destroyed my aunt’s purple taffeta prom dress trying to make something nice for Barbie to wear on her date. I sliced up a pristine stack of quilting fabric because it made a really excellent blanket for Barbie’s new bedroom set, cut up baby clothes, shark skin pants, silk ties, the list goes on. All in the name of creation. Damn yeah.
Here, dear friends, is an ode to my love of scissors.

All my friends. I’ve got some fancy stuff in there, and some not fancy stuff, and some cheap stuff, but they all serve their purpose and I feel completely lost without any one of them. I just realized how attached I am when yesterday I was stuck at work without any craft supplies, and the thing that bothered me most wasn’t the fabric that I’d left at home, but my crane scissors. My trusty li’l crane scissors. I guess rotary cutters aren’t exactly scissors, but they’re the newest addition to my growing family of cutters, and I love them like baby kitties. The thread cutters also aren’t scissors, but you get the idea. I love things that cut things. Sigh. Love. So much love for all my scissors and cutty-things. Where would I be without Gingher or Martha or Fiskars? Really, where would I be? What would my life be like without my pilgrim scissors or my floral scissors or my non-stick scissors? I’m convinced that I could never have developed creatively if I didn’t have this . . . relationship with my cutting tools. For reals. Mwah cutties!

So I came back from CHA quite charged up. I just busted out three gorgeous aprons!!!! Motivation sure helps. The marketplace wasn’t open- not open til tomorrow- but I was inspired none the less by the Indie Designer’s reception- very neat people there! So anyway, here’s a sneaky pre-photo shoot peek at the goods!

I haven’t named this one yet. Any suggestions? It’s totally totally adorable.

This is the lovely Ballroom Crafty Apron because it reminds me of the ballroom on a swanky old cruise ship.

And this lil friend also has no name yet. So simple and cute and clean and charming.
Next on my list: Finish a Candy Shop tote or two and then it’s Gumball Grenade fabric all the way!

Did anyone else feel that awful jolt last night around 7:30? I sure did. I’m not usually freaked out by earthquakes, but last night I was working and it occurred to me that I was above an open garage, below lots of heavy pipes, and surrounded by concrete and lots of glass. Kind of shook me up ( where do these puns come from?!). My fear was of course justified when I discovered ACTUAL earthquake damage! Here it is-

(dramatization)
Those packages might have been staged, but I really did find them on the floor ( I picked them up before realizing that it was an excellent photo opportunity).
Of course when I got home I realized what caused the earthquake.

Ridiculous amounts of grime on doggies often causes very subtle tremors which build up over time until they cause tectonic plates to shift, thus creating an earthquake. Don’t ask. It’s very complicated stuff.

See how fast they’re moving? That also makes earthquakes.

But no worries, fellow Los Angeleans, They went to the groomers today. No more earthquakes for a while.

Oh, and did I mention I’m going to CHA today?!!!!

It was supposed to be a fully charged craft-a-thon today. But it’s almost 2 o’clock and I keep hitting roadblocks. Afternoons are my downtime. And I don’t feel like I’ve accomplished much apart from cleaning my studio and washing some fabric. Ugh. I think it’s the clouds. I guess I have done a lot, but it doesn’t feel like it. I have all the bits cut out for my Candy Shop totes, but I realized that I don’t have the right hardware to just finish them off. My downtime task was going to be ironing in front of the t.v., but I can’t get settled until I’ve made my trip to the post office, which I can’t do until I finish two last Fix Kits, and the paint has to dry on those before I can do anything at all. Sigh. I feel poopy. Maybe I will find a cheerful sunny picture to cheer me up.

I think this will be my official ‘cheer-me-up’ picture.
OOoh, I know what will cheer me up! How about I cut out some pieces for my Gumball Grenade aprons! The dryer is almost done . . .

Yay! Last week I ordered the week’s winning fabric from Spoonflower and it has finally arrived! So cute! You know how I love me some silhouettes. So what do I plan to do with my lovely fabric? Make aprons of course. Here is my fantasy combination.

Mmmhmm. I like it. And here are some links:

Feels so good to be done with a long day. Or a long few days. I just spent the weekend gettin’ buckwild with bias tape and buttons and apron making. The aprons aren’t quite ready, and the purses are almost done, but I did manage to finish a bunch of adorable buttons! Here’s a little taste of the ridiculous cuteness that awaits you in my etsy shop.

And of course my lovely, lovely, painstakingly created bias tape.

But that was just to tease you. I have so many more goodies coming! I love making things!!!! Oh and happy Inauguration Day to everyone! Joy and cheer!!!
