New Look, New KITS!

You might have noticed that my blog has a new look- thank you LRhB Industries! I LOVE it, and I hope you do, too! I love the flags and the hand drawn details. So cute. And the colors, of course. I got pretty picky about the colors.

Next on the list- Benefit Kits!

For those of you who haven’t heard, last week my sewing machine died tragically in the middle of a project. I’ve been paying to use a machine at my local craft center, but that’s not particularly cost efficient. So in order to expedite the purchase of a replacement sewing machine I came up with a new section in my shop. The section is called Benefit Kits, and I’m stocking it with . . . KITS Yum! Everything will be $10 or less, free shipping, and it will all be super cute, super simple kits for your crafty enjoyment. The first item listed is this adorable Applique Set, made from really beautiful imported vintage cotton panels. They’re all flowers and berries in sage, pink, and blue. So pretty. The nice thing about these is that they’re iron on, so you literally just peel the paper off the back and iron them on to your crafty surface. You can also stitch over them or embroider on them for an additional crafty kick. They’d look so pretty on lampshades, skirts, sweaters, notebook covers, pillowcases, you name it.

Next time on the crafty blog- Polly Danger fabric short list (although this is actually kind of sadistic since I have no sewing machine. I just can’t seem to stop myself).

Sweet Crafty Lovin’ and Big Sur Beasties

I just want to say thanks so much to everyone who has offered help, support and services in my time of need. I really didn’t anticipate so much love, and it feels really nice to be supported right when I feel most down. I’ve been so bummed about my machine, and feeling lots of associated “what on earth am I doing” questions, but friends far and near have reminded me that good things are still there, hiding under the bad things on the news, and my own icky sadness. So thanks everyone!

Now that you all have helped get my head back on straight, I’m going to go ahead and post the Big Sur Beastie photos, followed by actual crafty updates- finally!

They ran and wrestled in the sand until they passed out. It was the cutest thing EVER.

There they go terrorizing strangers with their might and speed!

And I can’t resist just one more Petinasaurus picture. This one is Petina sitting with our cousin, J.B. He’s such a good uncle to the doggies. Too bad his face somehow got cut out of the photo- sorry J.B.

Vicious!

Tragedy in the Studio.

I was going to post about Big Sur animals today. But I can’t. I am so sad. My sewing machine . . . it’s bad. A couple of months ago it started to stick and sputter, so, being the do-it-yourselfer that I am, I opened it up. And I won’t even tell you what I did because I know someone will scold me. But long story short, it came back to haunt me. And then today there I was, sewing straps for my newest adorable and convenient goody, when it stopped. No sounds, no sputters, nothing. It just stopped. I’m pretty sure that I shorted out the electrical system somehow because the mechanism part works when I use the hand wheel, and the light turns on and the screen works fine. Oil + electricity don’t mix. I know, don’t yell at me. I know. The manufacturer specifically said not to oil it. But I’m used to a machine that doesn’t need servicing every time you change the thread, you know?

So I’m on the hunt for a new machine. One that I can oil. A machine that will sew through six layers of fabric, that I can use three or four hours a day, five days a week. I need a big girl sewing machine.

And now I’m going to go cry.

Oh yeah and I’m going to be at the Silverlake Art Craft & Vintage show this Saturday at Micheltorena Elementary on Sunset. If you happen to be in town, feel free to stop by and give me a hug. Or just stroll through the farmers market, have breakfast at Millies, and then come by my booth and give me a sympathetic smile or something like that.

Always end on a happy note.

Always end on a happy note.

Big Sur part 2

Flowers! Here are a bunch of wild flowers that we found on our hikes, most of them were growing right out of last year’s ash! Sadly, my expertise on California’s flora is atrophied, and my nature book didn’t list any of the flowers I photographed, so I don’t have names for any of these. One day I’ll have the whole Audubon Field Guide set and I’ll be able to tell you exactly what they are!

I'd love a giant bucket of these on my desk.
