A Gift from Charles Phoenix

NUM num Num!  The other day my lovey dovey husband texted me  with a very casual, “Hey Charles Phoenix can’t keep these slide cabinets, do you want them?”  Which part of this sentence is more awesome- getting a couple of beautiful handmade cabinets for free or getting them from someone as incredibly badass as Charles Phoenix?!  Even before I saw them I wanted them, though naturally once I saw them they made me drool just a bit.  They were made by a pilot to house his impressive collection of slides he’d taken over the years, and they’re just perfect for organizing ribbon and rickrack and millinery bits!  He also sent me 3 gorgeous vintage travel case which probably housed some kind of projection equipment or maybe more slides.  Talk about a lucky day!

They’re really nicely put together, with sliding doors and tidy little cubbies.

Once the cabinets got home I had the tedious and kinda sad job of removing the sticker labels, but I had to photograph them first.  I mean this must have been quite the collection.  There are a couple of labels titled, “Water- not ocean” and “Water- ocean”.  Other great labels were “Visual Delights” and “Sky”.  I would have loved to look through them- lucky Charles!

Now that they’re de-labeled (it took 3 hours and  quite a bit of elbow grease to do just one of the two cabinets) I get to make them mine!  My plan is to stack them, screw them together, and add some molding and table legs to the bottom.

I will certainly post photos as soon as my project is complete!

THANK YOU CHARLES PHOENIX – YOU ROCK!
