Oven Lovin’ Mitt Tutorial

Titillate your honey with a little taste of domesticated romance this Valentines Day! Serve up a scrumptious plate of heart-shaped french toast with a love-be-gloved hand! Add a matching apron and heels and maybe a little powdered sugar . . . what could be sweeter?

To make the Oven Lovin’ Mitt, you’ll need:

  • Main Fabric- 9” x 12”
  • Lining Fabric- 9” x 12”
  • Old Towel- 9” x 12”
  • Pockets- 2 pieces 9” x 8”
  • Bias Tape- 1 package Polly Danger Bias Tape (3 yards)
  • Heart Template – download here!

Instructions

STEP 1

Use a ruler and disappearing ink pen to draw a diagonal grid onto your main fabric
(or the lining fabric if you prefer).

With the fabrics right sides out, sandwich the towel in between the lining and main fabrics. Pin together and stitch over your drawn lines.

STEP 2

With the fabrics right sides out, sandwich the towel in between the lining and main fabrics. Pin together and stitch over your drawn lines. I suggest using a little bit longer stitch length than normal- on my Singer I used a 3.5.

STEP 3

For the pockets fold pocket pieces in half so that they are 4”x 9”. Iron the fold and pin bias tape over the folded edge. Stitch close to the edge- 1/8” or less. Repeat for other pocket piece.

Line pockets up with outer edges of the quilted main piece. Baste around the edges and cut out heart from the template. Baste around the edge of the heart.

STEP 4

Cut 4” of bias tape and stitch closed. Fold into a loop and pin to one side of the heart with the loop pointing to the inside of the heart. Next, pin, press, and stitch bias tape around the edge of the heart. Fold the loop back over the bias tape edge and stitch in place. The dip in the heart will take a bit of maneuvering and it might help to hand stitch this in place loosely before you begin machine stitching. Alternatively you can hand stitch the entire project for a bit of hand quilted romance!

Now cook up some french toast and shave your legs ‘cause you’re ready for romance!
