A Patchwork Canopy!

I haven’t posted any just-plain-crafty- posts in a while, so I thought I’d share this lovely object with you all.  You know I’m not into useless craftiness, so when I realized that we desperately needed a canopy for our XOXO II party I thought I’d go all out.  I finally felt like I was ready to cut up my glorious collection of vintage fabrics- the ones I buy from my favorite source, even though I know darn well that they are not for bias tape.  Anyhow, I sewed a total of 34 panels, each with 2 channels, and ran yarn through the channels.  Then I attached them at either end to patio posts and tied little supports between each row. It’s such a bohemian-adorable idea that it’s still hanging even though our party was over a week ago!

It made great shade, by the way!

Out N About- The L.A. Arboretum!

Being that Eric and I both work from home we’ve discovered that it’s really important to make time every week to romance each other.  We take turns planning dates every weekend.  This weekend we spent a morning strolling in the peacock-strewn Los Angeles County Arboretum.

Have you ever wondered what a peacock looks like from behind his wall of fancy feathers?

Look at that adorable tuft of fluffy feathers!  I highly recommend treading delicately around these guys, because they are NOT afraid of people.

After our little adventure at the Santa Anita Racetrack last weekend I just couldn’t stop thinking about the arboretum, and I’m SO glad we went!  It’s truly a fantastic way to spend the day, or a couple of days- it’s HUGE!!  Be prepared to wander freely because the maps they hand out at the entrance are really awful.  They didn’t seem to correspond to reality in any way, so we stopped looking at the map and just wandered around.  I think our trip was much more satisfying that way.

I recommend taking a picnic blanket, even if you’re not planning on picnicking.  It gets pretty hot towards the middle of the day and a shady spot under a fragrant tree would be the perfect spot for a rest!

We didn’t have a picnic blanket with us, but we did find some shade on the banks of a “prehistoric” pond.  We listened to countless bird calls and made friends with some very curious turtles.  This one reminds me of Morla from The Neverending Story.

And we also enjoyed the lovely blooms of early Spring!  It smelled delicious!

Lovely!

Pup Snacks!

Baked some yumalicious doggie snacks this weekend for the Mutt Scouts benefit bake sale over at Home Ec.  It came just in time too because our ancient oven finally kicked the bucket yesterday- what timing, huh?!  Not only did our 6 taste testers fully approve, but the packaging came out SO cute!

Our pups loved the snackies and so did  . . . Archie!

Archie was the Reform School mascot for an afternoon and the first official Pup Snacks taste tester.  So cute!

Happy New Backdrops!

You kids might not know this, but my adorable striped photo backdrop has been in bad shape lately.  I think all the moving around and taking out and setting up and putting away scratched it up beyond hope.  So I’ve been experimenting with new backdrops, but they either weren’t cute enough, or they weren’t “Polly Danger” enough.  But I finally found just the right look.

Take a gander!

You can find this lovely coin/card pouch HERE.

Somebody Loves Me . . .

I’m feeling kind of sickie today, but I’ve got myself all snuggled up in blankies on the bed, which is covered in puppies.  This makes me happy.  Know what else makes me happy?  My mom made heart-shaped biscuits this morning.  So I couldn’t resist the urge (sick or not) to slice and jam them before shoving a few in my sickie face.  YUM!

Also making me happy this morning is sweet and lovely Jenny from Robots and Teapots, who is not only a wonderful customer but an Etsy seller, and blogged about the Mini Wallet I made for her!  And she’s hosting a GIVEAWAY!!  So go take a look at her mini wallet and enter her giveaway!!!

Like Mother Like Daughter

I have a super exciting something to share!  The internet has another awesome crafter- let’s give a big crafty welcome to Miss Ivy Jewelry! My mom’s website is up and running!!!  My fantastically crafty mom has been making her bohemian chic jewelry for quite a while now, mostly selling to friends and in trunk shows but after much hemming and hawing she got techie on us and got this lovely, lovely website!  I’m so proud of her I can’t even explain it.  She is the reason I’m crafty and it’s really beautiful to see her growing as a designer and business woman.  Go mom!

Miss Ivy not only makes awesome gypsy-esque bracelets and earrings, but she does fantastic custom work as well!  Stop by and take a gander!
